Today is another gorgeous day, blue skies, warm and sunny. I am spending the day alone in Galway while the rest of the group heads to the Aran Islands, just offshore. I am feeling a little burned-out and in need of some solo time. After spending 2 weeks as an assistant guide and then starting this tour the next day, I have had very little down time. Galway is a great town and I am looking forward to having the day to explore it on my own. Yesterday was a long day on the bus, where we took a ferry across the river Shannon, stopping at a little town to buy a picnic lunch. We found a pub called "O'Looney's", which was the name of our Irish grandfather, so Tammy snapped a picture of Bob and I standing outside of it. Then we headed up to the "Cliffs of Moher", which were spectacutlar but packed with tourists. Aftewards we stopped at 'The Burren' - a barren, rocky region made up of Limestone along the coast. At first glance it seems pretty desolate, but growing in between the rocks are a great variety of little wildflowers and plants. It's one of the few places in the world where there are Arctic, alpine and Mediterranean plants all growing in the same place. It was quiet, peaceful and very unique. Candi even did a little bouldering on the rocks. We pulled into Galway about 6:00 pm, pretty tired. After quickly checking into our B&B's, we had a group dinner together at a pub in the town center, then our guide Stephen took us on a quick introductory walk through the old part of town down to the waterfront. Then Bob, Tammy and some of the other Tour members went out to a pub, but Candi and I were beat so went to bed early.
