| | Today we left Galway and headed for Westport. We were only there 1 night, arriving late in the afternoon and left early this morning, so didn't really get to see much of the town. It would have been nice to stick around for another day or so as it seemed like a very nice place, this years winner of the 'Tidy Town Award' (tidy cat, tidy bowl, tidy town). Yesterday was a total blast. We left Galway, driving thorugh the Irish countryside and passing green fields and delapadated 'famine cottages' - overgrown stone houses, abandoned in the mid 19th century during the Potato Famine. In the afternoon we stopped to play a traditional Irish game called 'Hurling', which is a sort of a combination of field hockey and baseball. Our guide Stephen gave us a quick lesson and then divided us up into 2 teams. Last night after dinner we all went to a pub and Bob was able to borrow a guitar from one of the musicians and sing a song. more later, my internet is almost out of time. |
