Jul 28, 2006 - Barrow upon Soar
We stayed the night with my friend Claire, who lives in a small village called Barrow-upon-Soar, which is in the Midlands, just south of Loughton. There are a lot of towns in England with names like this, which means 'Barrow on the river Soar. It's a cute little town and not a tourist destination, so were getting a real glimpse into the life of an average Brit. It's nice to be somewhere where there aren't swarms of other tourists or any museums or historical sites we feel that we have to visit. Last night we went to dinner and then over to the local pub, a quick walk from Claire's house. It has a little patio overlooking the river and we sat there with locals, drinking cider and chatting. It's great to see Claire after so much time, the last time I saw her was 2000 when I was in Costa Rica. Today we head to the Chipping Campden in the Cotswalds. It will be nice to be situated in one spot for more than 2 days, as I am tired of living out of my bag.
