| Here are some pictures from my bike ride around the south part of the island yesterday. Looks like I chose the right day to have off, as today is rainy and windy - a perfect day to update book files. The ride was 15 miles, mostly flat, through farmlands and past secluded little beaches. I bought some picnic fixin's at the grocery store and took off. The renal bikes are all big, clunky touring bikes with baskets in front, which looked kind of dorky, but were actually very practical, as I could store all my crap there and not have to lug around a day pack. I couldn't help but hum the tune from the Wizard of Oz as I rode along, you know, the son when the wicked witch is pedaling her bike - duh-duh-duh, duh-dah-dah , duh-duhhh as I rode along.
It was a beautiful day, perfect for a bike ride, warm and breezy and hardly a soul on the road. It felt good to get out and do something other than work, with the sun on my skin and the wind in my hair, just pedaling through the peaceful, Danish countryside. There are a lot of little stands along the road here selling fresh fruit and veggies, home made jam and honey. It's on the honor system; there's a sign listing the price, you just put your money in a little box and take what you want. There are also a lot of old U-shaped farms, built to block the wind. One end has the barn, the other the house. , and in the middle, storage or workshop. One farm I passed had several little 'cottages' built on stilts in a pond. I stopped to look at them and a woman working in her garden told they are little duck houses, complete with ramps leading down to the water. She said that n the Spring, you can see rows of baby ducks walking down the ramp in single file each morning, very cute.
