Today we got up bright and early, picked up the rental car and said goodbye to Granada as we headed down to the town of Nerja, on the Costa del Sol. It was a nice drive through the Spanish countryside without much traffic, passing groves of orange and olive trees and not much else but dry, rocky hills as we headed down towards the coast. It was only an hour and a half drive, but it was a like entering a differant world.

The town is pretty quiet, being as it's November, and we got a room at an excellent hotel, very fancy-shmancy, right on the main square, for only €45 a night. It's also a town of mostly retired people from Britain, Germany and Scandinavia. I don't think I have ever seen so many real estate offices in one place before, with all its listings in 4 languages. The beach was gorgeous and the air warm and clean. We hung out on the beach reading and relaxing for most of the afternoon, but the water was a bit cold for swimming. In the evening we found a little Mexican restaurant, where we sat drinking margaritas and had an excellent dinner. Not very authentic, but still pretty good. Walter is a vegetarian, and his food choices have been rather limited, being that Spain is definetly a meat and potatoes kind of country. After a week of eating a lot of eggs and salad, he was ready for something differant.
