We have been in Salema, on the Algarve coast of Portugal for 2 days now. I can understand why this is one of Rick's favorite get aways. I love it here and wish we could stay a few more days, but we need to leave today in order to see Sevilla and Madrid before Walter heads home on Tuesday. Were staying at Pension Amare, on a hill overlooking the town with great views of the ocean. The place is run by a very nice Danish couple who prepare the best breakfast I have had so far on this trip, included in the price.

I got up right at dawn this morning to see one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen. I walked down to the beach just as the sky was getting light, sitting on a log and watching the sun come up over the sea. The weather here has been perfect. Bright, sunny skies and warm temperatures during the day (mid to uppper 70's I guess?) but the nights are fairly cold. Well, it is November after all. I think that I picked the perfect time of year to travel through Spain and Portugal. I have heard stories of how hot it can be in the summer and I would not do well with the heat or crowds. We have had great weather and low crowds everywhere we have been, except Barcelona which was very crowded.

Yesterday we drove to the south western most point of Europe, Cape Sagres. It used to be known as the end of the world, and certainly felt like it. It is a wind swept, rocky place resembling the surface of the moon except for a few hardy low-growing plants and all the Portuguese fisherman, casting their lines from the cliffs. We sat there watching the fisherman, snapping photos and breathing in the sweet, sea air. We then drove up the coast to explore some hidden beaches and came back to Salema for some seriouis beach time. I even got a little sunburned, but not too bad. Well, it's time for breakfast. More later.
